Abida Malik

Dr Abida Malik is a sociologist (social scientist) who studies identities, citizenship, civil society, globalization and religion. Dr Malik research interests are based on doing evidence-based research to shape and influence social policy. She has been part of the School of Sociology and Social Policy since 2007 and lectures, supervises and has an interest in EDI concerns. Her other research interests also focus on multiculturalism, Islamophobia and British Muslims. She was the Director of Research for the Bridge institute – a think tank supported by the Aziz foundation and was a parliamentary academic fellow (PAF) which was awarded and funded by the ESRC. She was a PhD supervisor at the Centre of Islamic Finance at the University of Bolton. She is a member of BBSI (British Board of Scholars and Imams) and worked with BIMA British Islamic Medical Association. She has worked to deliver symposium, research and consultations with Imams and Scholars on pertinent issues within Muslim communities. Dr Malik is also Muslim chaplain at the University of Nottingham. She has been a part of UK Muslim civil society for over 25 years.
