MUSLIM INSTITUTE 2ND ANNUAL IBN SINA LECTURE ‘Modern Medicine and the Legacy of Ibn Sina’. Delivered by Professor Syma Khalid. Saturday 31st May 2025, Bradford City Hall Council Chamber.

In this 2nd annual Muslim Institute lecture, Dr Syma Khalid, Professor of Computational Microbiology & Tutorial Fellow of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford talked about the legacy of Ibn-Sina and the cutting edge work she leads in.

Professor Khalid did groundbreaking work during the Covid-19 pandemic, and is now tackling the problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. True to the tradition of Ibn Sina, Syma is a polymath, a chemist, a biochemist and a microbiologist, working at the frontiers of human knowledge and technology.

The event also featured the Razwan Baig Collection and calligraphy. The exhibition provided a glimpse into the world of Islamic artefacts and calligraphy. Razwan Baig’s private collection is one of the biggest in the UK. Razwan Baig is also a master calligrapher, producing beautiful contemporary work based in the classical tradition.
