We will be holding our monthly gathering on 12 November and are delighted to welcome Hassan Rachik, an anthropologist and Professor at the University Hassan II of Casablanca, who has done extensive work on Islam among nomadic peoples in Morocco. He will be speaking about Islam and common knowledge and it will be an ideal opportunity to hear and discuss his perspective on the origin, meaning and direction of the Arab Spring.
Prof Rachik has been a Visiting Professor at Princeton and Brown Universities in the US; l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris and The Institute For the Study of Islamic Civilizations, London. He is the author of numerous articles and books including “How Religion Turns into Ideology”, The Journal of North African Studies, 2009, Volume 14 Issue 3, 347. Prof Rachik is in Britain courtesy of our friends at the British Council in Morocco.
As usual the gathering will be at our London office, CAN Mezzanine, 49-51 East Road, Old Street, London N1 6AH, 2-6pm. Free Entry and all guests welcome.
