When

Friday 13 May 2022, 19:00 — 20:30
CM Book Club on 'Among the Eunuchs: A Muslim Transgender Journey' by Leyla Jagiella

Critical Muslim readers are invited to join the Muslim Institute's second book club, facilitating informal and constructive conversations in a welcoming and inclusive space in central London.

In this month's session we will look at Among the Eunuchs: A Muslim Transgender Journey, written by Critical Muslim contributor and editorial board member Leyla Jagiella, and published by Hurst Publishers.

A courageously personal exploration of gender identity across Muslim cultures, from the West, to South Asia, we are excited to explore a book that reveals vastly varied interpretations of religion, gender and sexuality, illuminating how deeply culture informs our experiences. As identity becomes an ideological battle, Jagiella complicates binaries and dogma with her rich personal reflections.

We look forward to hearing your responses to the ideas and issues explored in our chosen publication, showcasing ground-breaking thinking on Islam and what it means to be a Muslim in a rapidly changing, interconnected world.

This will be our first ever hybrid session, taking place both in-person and online. This will be unchartered territory so please be patient should any technical challenges occur, and let us all remain mindful of online and in-person etiquette as they converge.

The in-person venue is St Andrew's Church, Short Street, London, SE1 8LJ.
