The Muslim Institute Fourth Annual Ibn Rushd Lecture 'Finding the Oldest Qur'an in the World?' by Dr Alba Fedeli

The fourth Annual Ibn Rushd lecture was held at the illustrious Art Workers' Guild Hall in London on the evening of 1 June 2016.

Introduced by Ehsan Masood, Chair of the Muslim Institute, Dr Alba Fedeli talked about her rediscovery last year of some of the world's earliest surviving verses of the Qur'an: two leaves of parchment, which have been dated to the seventh century and could have been written down in the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad.

Islamic philosophy has a long and distinguished history and its changing role in the Islamic world is significant for what it has to say about the cultural environment in which it exists. In the third annual ibn Rushd lecture, which took place once again in June at the illustrious Art Workers' Guild Hall in London, Professor Ebrahim Moosa of the University of Notre Dame explored the theme 'Between Ghazali and Ibn Rushd: Ethics, Reason and Humility'.

It’s becoming a little tradition with me to spend at least one summer evening a year at the Muslim Institute’s annual lecture. The event appropriately called the ‘Ibn Rushd Lecture’ and completed its third session. Held at the Arts Workers' Guild in Holborn, it exudes a feel of those old intellectual circles once held in this great city of ours. No other Islamic organization can do it like the Muslim Institute.
